Manager Rhys Griffiths, gives his initial reflections on a difficult season for the women's section, but remains positive for the future.

It's an understatement to say our season hasn’t been the easiest season. A mass exodus of last year's squad, along with a few players who had initially agreed to stick out the season leaving, at first left a gaping hole in experience, with the void filled by a remarkably young squad with an average age barely above 19 years old. This has paved the ways for some players who previously hadn’t been given some opportunities, to make the step up and show themselves in a fantastic light at this level, despite the results! Millie Delamont against Portishead and Sophia Poling against MK Dons just to name a couple of spectacular performances.

But this young group of players have something special: a fighting spirit like no other. Their "never die attitude" isn’t just a slogan; it is etched into every game that they play. Each time they walked onto the pitch and looked to do everything that both Craig and I have asked them to, is a testament to their unwavering determination. Even when faced with setbacks, they have dusted themselves off and marched back onto the pitch to look to change our fortunes!

This isn't just about talent, though. These spectacular women are amazing characters, individuals who continue to dedicate themselves to improvement. This dedication, this work ethic, earns them every ounce of respect they receive. Respect is something they deserve in spades. Each of the players, despite the odds stacked against them, have shown resilience unlike anything I've ever seen. Their spirit, their unwavering belief in themselves and each other, is truly inspiring.

But the story doesn't end there. The return of Kate Delillis and Alice Gue, along with the recent additions of some more bright talents, has bred some new energy into our squad. The team is improving, learning, and growing with each game. And if they continue to maintain these high standards, the future for Selsey Women FC is incredibly bright.

This season may not be filled with trophies and accolades, but it is a season of triumph in the face of adversity. This season is showcasing the strength, the heart, and the unwavering spirit of a team that plays not just for wins, but for each other. This is a team to watch, a team that will surprise even the most cynical critics as long as they stick together and keep working for each other.

So keep an eye on Selsey Women, because they're on a journey to amazing things, and their hard work will undoubtedly pave the way to success.
