We are saddened to hear that our former First Team Manager has passed away.

Selsey Football Club are deeply saddened to learn that former first team player and manager Nigel Hillier has passed away at the age of 84.

Before taking up the reins at Selsey, Nigel captained Chichester City’s first Sussex County League title in 1959/60. The following season he helped retain the title and also win the Royal Ulster Rifles Cup, before going into management with Chichester City first team and reserves.

Nigel also captained the Sussex County representative squad in the 1960s.

Locally he is remembered for his part in the Chi City team’s run that reached the FA Cup 1st round against Bristol City in front of 12,000 fans at Ashton Gate in 1960.

As well and playing and managing The Blues and his legacy at Selsey was that he designed and painted our club badge, an up-to-date version of this is still in use today.

Tributes have been shared across the county, with Sussex FA posting messages of condolence on twitter.

Our thoughts and prayers go to his family and former team mates.

As a mark of respect a minutes silence will take place tomorrow evening when our U23s take on Chi City U23s at Oaklands Park and at our game on Saturday against Pagham in the FA Vase.
