Club Statement following today's postponement

Following the postponement of today’s Southern Regional Women’s Football League Cup game against Beaconsfield Town, the club has noticed some slightly incorrect information circulating on social media platforms.

To clarify, the club would like to outline the steps taken over the last couple of days regarding contact with the opposition, as well as the circumstances surrounding the game’s postponement.

• From Friday onwards, the club had been in constant contact with the opposition regarding the weekend’s game.
• Saturday: Following discussions with the club’s pitch maintenance team, initial indications suggested the pitch would be playable by the weekend.
• Saturday Afternoon: The club contacted Beaconsfield to confirm that the pitch was playable following a thorough inspection. Good weather conditions on Saturday, coupled with no prior game on the pitch, supported this assessment.
• Sunday Morning: The pitch was inspected again before 8:00 AM by the club’s ground staff and deemed playable at that time. However, with a deteriorating weather forecast for later in the day, concerns arose regarding the pitch’s long-term condition.
• Sunday Morning: The Selsey secretary made initial contact with the Beaconsfield secretary via phone and email at 8:30 AM. A further phone call followed at 8:52 AM.
• Sunday Morning: Selsey informed Beaconsfield that the pitch was currently playable but, given the worsening weather forecast, were willing to make an early decision to postpone the game to avoid unnecessary travel for the visitors.
• Sunday Morning: Beaconsfield indicated that many of their players had already begun travelling to the designated meeting point and were willing to proceed with the journey to Selsey. Club officials at Selsey agreed to keep Beaconsfield updated on any changes.
• Sunday Morning: At approximately 11:30 AM, one of the appointed match officials deemed the pitch unplayable and made the decision to postpone the game following standing water appearing on the pitch. Beaconsfield were immediately informed of this decision via phone call.

Selsey, as a club, strives to conduct its affairs professionally and with integrity. The club is unwilling to engage in any further discussion beyond the information outlined above.
